Dodgeball for Diabetes

What We Are

With the help of some great friends, Dave Erb founded the Dodgeball for Diabetes charity in 2004 to raise money to defeat diabetes and to educate people about what it really means to live with Type 1 diabetes.

  • Raising Money
Since the inaugural tournament in 2005, our tournaments have raised over $178,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
  • Helping to Educate
We want to raise awareness for the everyday details people often overlook, taking insulin every time they eat, pricking their finger multiple times a day, and living with the consequences of high or low blood sugar.

Ninth Ephrata Dodgeball Tournament Fall 2012

Dodgeball for Diabetes celebrated the ninth annual Dodgeball Tournament, crowning three champions for the Fall of 2012. The tournament featured forty-eight teams comprising of over 314 players all of which came together to to have fun, while raising money for Juvenile Diabetes.

The Tournament, designed to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes, raised over $11,600, marking the seventh straight year that over $10,000 was raised.

The Champions of each circuit are listed below, but in my mind the real winners are the teams that raised more than the minimum required amount.

This year three teams made over an hour trek to participate in the event, traveling from Souderton, PA. And for the second straight year, Martin Meylin Middle School, in the Lampeter-Strasburg school district, held their own fundraiser, and donated to our event.

Locally one team raised over $1,000 on their own, and for their efforts, members of "Sweet Redeemers" received a bundle of dodgeball clothes and memorabilia.

Congratulations, and thanks to all that participated, and all that helped.

How it all went down

  • Rookie Circuit
In the Rookie Circuit, from a record field of ten teams, the Harlem Globe Dodgers (7-0, 14-1) came out victorious with a win over Team Awesome (5-2, 9-4). Little did they know at the time, the Harlem Globe Dodgers were starting a theme, a theme of undefeated champions.
  • Junior Circuit
In the Junior Circuit, Bow Down (6-0, 12-2) turned back The Tweeters (4-2, 9-4) two games to one. The two teams had met in pool play earlier, with Bow Down winning that game as well and securing the number one seed from the East pool.

  • Senior Circuit
In the Senior Circuit, Dodge.0 (8-0, 16-1) completed the rare trifecta of undefeated champions, turning back the Wallstreet Dodgers (7-1, 14-4), the finals matchup of two undefeated teams was a rarity in itself, and assured all those in attendance that their would be three undefeated champions crowned, regardless of who won. The Fluffy Bunnies (5-3, 11-7) had an incredible playoff run, knocking off both Fear the Beard (3-1, 7-2) and Threat Level Midnight (4-2, 8-5) before losing to the eventual champions.
